Precise Verbs

We have been talking a lot about how your verbs can really become the source of a lot of detail in your writing. By selecting precise verbs, rather than relying on adverbs to modify things, you can bring a lot more depth and sophistication to your writing.

Check out this blog post for a comprehensive breakdown of this concept.

We spent time in competition with each other to come up with precise verbs which could replace the following:

– run quickly
– walk slowly
– sit on
– swim

Second Person Narrative

Over the course of this work, we have discussed how narrative point of view changes the way we write and subsequently read a piece. Today, we played with the ‘second person’ and used it to write a description of our favourite place. The second person places the reader in the position of the ‘character’ in the description and is a good way of drawing a reader in.
